In keeping with the theme of the Cinema Systers Film Festival, we are sharing a few films we found to be interesting and worth mentioning.  We hope that you find them to be of value, as well.  

 

Cheryl Dunye wrote and starred in this powerful film. The Watermelon Woman is famous for being the first Afro-American, lesbian feature narrative film.  It also won the Teddy Award in 1996. 


The Watermelon Woman is a groundbreaking film about a lesbian filmmaker who conducts a research project.  This fiction focuses on women of color who were actors in American movies from the 1930's. 

 

If you're looking for a light movie with a little romance, entwined with a little black history, this movie might be for you.
