Everyone was touched by Kate's deep admiration for Ellen.  It was obvious she had been in awe of her idol, ever since she was a teenager. She attributed Ellen's coming out with her own.  Ellen opened the door, making it easier for others to do the same.

 

Ellen also shed a few tears as she talked about Carol Burnett.  Carol was in the audience, glowing with pride and perhaps a little embarrassment at all of the compliments she was receiving.

 

Clearly, this was an emotional time for all.
